Art Walk Was Bigger Than Ever

Last night's Downtown Art Walk was even bigger than last month — it just keeps getting bigger and bigger! There were two live bands playing on Main St., one interesting ensemble outside the local tattoo parlour playing interesting sounds that seemed to me to be some kind of free-for-all Reggaeton, and the ever popular cover band on the corner of Main and 5th whos name escapes me at the moment. Both drew large crowds and that wasn't too hard because of the increasing number of people attending Downtown Art Walk each month. At 725 Spring Gallery/Artists Lofts, there were two local artists (names will be forthcoming) showing their work and a very popular foto booth stole the show there.

I heard whispers that there are plans on having the Downtown Art Walk twice a month, and "someone" (who shall remain nameless) told me that there was a special shuttle bus coming available complete with a comfortable little rolling living room inside it!

The buzz now is The Hive's current show, which is sure to be a huge hit. A little bird told me that several large works were sold during Art Walk, so perhaps the art market is heating up a bit on the prospects of coming change in this election year. Alex Schaefer's work is a standout there.. be sure to drop by and check out his "5 Positions" series for an extremely affordable and interesting take on the porn industry painted from live porn shoots! Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk Tonight!

Well, it's the first Thursday in the month, so that means.... drum roll please.... it's ARTWALK!!

I just left The Hive at 729 Spring St. where they have so many good artworks it's hard to get out of there - the featured artist this month is Augie Pagan who's works seem reminiscent of The Mask, (that's probably an insult, but I don't claim to be a critic) and there are some standout works there that are a MUST SEE for the ArtWalk tonight! (I stole a bad camera shot of one of the works... as you can see here :P)

The Hive Gallery might put something up in a bit about the current exhibition, and you can't miss their Saturday bash this weekend! Really, it's well worth the effort - live music, booze, snacks, hip crowd.... and so on and so forth.

As noted earlier, INFUSION Gallery is having an opening... some really nice art there this month. And while walking or shuttling around... check out the other galleries. g727 (formerly Gallery 727) is having an opening reception for "Featuring the Lightz and Soundz of..." What? I don't know... have to check that out to see.... the reception is on Satuday June 14th at 7pm at, where else, 727 Spring St.

Popkiller at 323 E. 2nd Street has an opening reception tonight during ArtWalk for a solo exhibition by Yuki Miyazaki and Bailey Gallery is opening UNLEASHED at 564 S Main St for Max Neutra, with 10% of the proceeds, if any, going to the World Wildlife Fund. Opening reception is also tonight, so drop by and check that one out as well. See you all at ArtWalk!
